Segway Battery Rebuilds (A Less Expensive Option)

I placed a link on the sidebar which will direct one to MTO battery, a service which rebuilds batteries, including Segway batteries. The Segway batteries can be rather pricey and rebuilding them can save an owner several hundreds of dollars. In addition, with the introduction of the newer I2 model, Segway has discontinued the production of the NIMH batteries which come standard on the Gen 1 models in favor of the lithium ones which come on the I2 model. Segway dealers sell the lithium batteries at a price of approximately $1800. Rebuilds of the NIMH batteries provides a much cheaper alternative to purchasing new ones.

I have been lucky in that my original batteries on my I167 lasted almost 4 years before playing out (They stayed plugged up via the charger whenever I was not using them). I believe my Segway batteries were the first ones MTO rebuilt. Since then, they have significantly expanded their Segway battery service. Their service is remarkable. Mine had to be returned because of a bad cell. They readily took them back, even paying for shipping them via UPS. They told me by phone that their goal was to leave the customer satisfied, which they did very well. I highly recommend them to anyone seeking a cheaper alternative to buying new batteries.

More Early Fall Festivals

The Daniel Boone Days Festival in Winchester is one of our favorites. This year we made our 3rd appearance with the Segway and although the temperature was hot (it seems like Tysabri is helping me to tolerate heat much better than before), we enjoyed the event very much.

This weekend we hit two additional festivals. First in Burgin Kentucky, afterwards traveling to Lancaster, Kentucky for the Rural Heritage Festival.
One special note - I remember more than a few years ago when I was seeing neurologist number 4 (I'm now with neuro No 7), trying to find out what was happening to me, he mentioned that he thought I might possibly have MS, but he couldn't say for sure. This was of the first time MS had even been mentioned by anyone and I wasn't even sure what it was. I asked what that might mean for me and he said that I should stay out of the heat, further saying that in the future I would have some good days as well as some bad days. How true! Well, today happens to be one of the very good days I'm having.
We met a very special lady at the festival in Lancaster, Ms. Shirley Harper. Her effervescent personality was particularly interesting. She seemed to be amazed at the Segway, even getting other people she knew to come over and see it. I told her that I used the Segway because I had MS and couldn't walk very well and she quickly dismissed that by saying "That's OK, I don't have three of my fingers because they were cut off in an accident", and showed me her hand. Wanda and I both enjoyed talking to her very much. I gave her this web address and told her I would be posting our picture.

Woodland Arts Fair '08

Once again (see very 1st post), we attended the Woodland Arts Fair in Lexington. Still being the fair-food freak that I am, I sought out something different to eat, ending up with a very good Crabcake Sandwich. Yum, yum, yum.

When we were looking around we just happened to run into presidential candidate Barack Obama. We couldn't resist having our picture made with him. Pictured is daughter no. 2 Cynthia Bruno, daughter no.1 Melody Stacy, the man himself and the good ole' Segwayman.

The grand kids, AnnMarie, Tanner and Sam wanted to get a picture with Barack Obama also. Tanner (in orange shirt) seemed to be especially perplexed by running into him.

We thought it was strange that he stayed so quiet and maintained a wide smile on his face all the time we were taking pictures.
