Hong Kong Visitors

A delegation of 43 teachers/school administrators from Hong Kong spent several days in Scott County last week. They were touring our school system as a part of the Invitational Schools program, one which I was associated with while I was working as an elementary school principal. They attended a Saturday evening barbecue near my daughters house (Mike, her husband, and of course my son-in-law, is an assistant principal at Scott County High School), and afterwards walked the short distance to my daughters house for dessert. They gathered around my daughters' piano for a group sing after they ate. It was quite moving to hear 'Amazing Grace' sung in their native language.
They seemed to enjoy riding the Segway very much. As with our prior European adventures the Segway greatly helped to transcend any cultural barrier. Fun in any language is fun. When I asked them if they had seen any in Hong Kong, they replied that they had, but the Segway was not to be used on the streets due to the heavy traffic and sometimes very narrow streets. Seems a shame because that might be one answer to their overcrowded urban byways.
